The parent company has led the way, now the subsidiaries are catching up: After the Krones Group completed its most recent EcoVadis rating with gold, we can be pleased about two more medals in our family: our Italian subsidiary System Logistics has also achieved gold status in this year’s EcoVadis rating. And a silver medal has just gone to Switzerland: to our injection molding specialist Netstal.

Compared to the previous year, both subsidiaries have improved by a whole medal level and have climbed significantly in the overall ranking: Netstal ranks in the top 15 percent of the companies assessed, while System Logistics is even in the top five percent.

Just like the parent company, the subsidiaries are also working on improving their respective ESG performance in a targeted manner based on their current ratings. This applies in particular to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in Scope 3, i.e. in the upstream and downstream supply chain. As the Krones Executive Board announced in the first quarter, the aim is to achieve net-zero status by 2040 in accordance with the requirements of the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi)! “With regard to our medium and long-term ESG targets, we still have a lot of work ahead of us,” says Krones CEO Christoph Klenk. “But that’s precisely why milestones like this are so important. Because they give us additional momentum to consistently drive forward our sustainable transformation.”

Making faster progress with decentralised responsibility: This was precisely the idea behind the establishment of our international sustainability competence team. It consists of colleagues from various Krones subsidiaries and locations who are driving forward the issue of sustainability throughout the Krones world.

One of them is Passakorn “Pey” Sukkasem. As Sustainability Coordinator for Asia-Pacific, he is the local contact person for all ESG matters in the region. For our news blog, he gave us a brief update on the measures and progress made in the first half of the year.

The first priority was to sensitise the regional management team to sustainability issues. Appropriate training measures were organised for this purpose. This year’s Regional Management Forum and the Krones Asia Pacific ISO Meeting provided the perfect framework for this.

Twelve per cent energy saved

As a concrete measure to protect resources, a waste separation system was introduced in the offices, which makes it possible to recycle reusable materials. A lot has also been done in terms of energy efficiency. Switching to LED lighting and installing a new ventilation system has significantly reduced energy consumption: Compared to the previous quarter, it fell by twelve per cent.

And because teamwork and motivation are the best accelerators of sustainability, a photo competition was organised to mark “Waste Free Day”. The picture above shows how enthusiastically and happily the employees took part.
