Several thousand companies were up for selection, but only 600 made it onto the list by the end: The Financial Times and Statista honour Europe’s Climate Leaders for 2024.

Which European companies have done the most for climate protection over a five-year period? To find out, the Financial Times joined forces with the data specialists of Statista to call on several thousand companies to reveal their emissions and revenue figures. The publicly available data of around 2,000 European companies were also analysed. The data was sourced mainly from annual reports and non-financial declarations as well as the CDP sustainability database.

The results were published recently – and Krones can now count itself one of Europe’s Climate Leaders for the second time in a row. That is wonderful recognition for the many people in the Group who are committed to climate protection. A look at the list of winners shows that we are in the very best company, because the Climate Leaders also include many of our key account customers – clear evidence of the future viability of the food and beverage industry. Now we need to keep at it – together we can achieve the transformation to a sustainable industry!

    Who was assessed?

To be even considered in the first place, companies had to meet the following criteria:

    • Head office in a European country
    • At least 40 million euros in revenue in 2022
    • Publication of the operating emissions (scope 1 and 2) and revenue for the years 2017 to 2022
    • Where a CDP scorecard exists, a rating of at least “B”

    How was the assessment made?

The following criteria were factored into the ranking:

    • Degree of reduction in emissions from scope 1 and 2 (in the 2017 to 2022 period)
    • Transparent reporting on scope 3 emissions
    • CDP rating result
    • Collaboration with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi)

There were a maximum of 100 points to achieve. The top 600 companies with the best overall score were included in the list of “Europe’s Climate Leaders 2024”. With an overall result of 72.1, we occupy ninth place in the “Machines and industrial equipment” category.
