“How are you – really?” Not always an easy question to answer. That’s why 10 October marks a special day: World Mental Health Day. The aim is to raise awareness of the importance of mental health and to remind us that a simple “I’m fine” doesn’t always mean that everything is truly okay.
Often, behind this phrase, there can be stress, excessive demands, worries or even mental illness – challenges that are frequently intensified by everyday work life. That’s why mental health deserves conscious attention. Despite its growing significance in society, many people still find it difficult to speak openly about their personal struggles. Concerns about not being taken seriously or encountering a lack of understanding often play a role. At Krones, we are committed to breaking the taboo, opening up dialogue and providing support for employees in their working environment.
“Not Just in Your Head!” and other initiatives
Last year, the Health Management team launched the “Not Just in Your Head!” campaign to increase awareness of mental health and mental illnesses. A particular highlight: colleagues had the chance to use VR headsets and gain a brief insight into the emotional and cognitive world of people affected by depression. Over the course of six months, staff could join 45 different sessions – each offering practical knowledge and tips to promote mental wellbeing, both at work and in their personal lives.
To keep the topic in the spotlight, several long-term initiatives have emerged from the campaign. These include an ongoing series on mental health with regular webinars, peer exchange formats, a relaxing lunch break, and training for effective stress management.
This year, to mark World Mental Health Day, the Health Management team will offer a dedicated session with a mental coach specifically for male employees, with the aim of encouraging open discussion about mental health in this target group.
People make the difference
“For Krones, it’s a clear priority to empower its greatest asset: our employees,” says Florian Hirsch, Head of Health Management. For good reason: Not only do employees benefit from the wide range of health offerings – the company itself also gains clear advantages. This commitment is getting noticed: With the “Not Just in Your Head!” campaign, Krones received the 2024 German HR Management Award. A success that inspires. “But we’re not stopping there – our Health Management team will continue to champion mental health initiatives,” emphasises Florian Hirsch.
